  • INTERESTED IN JOINING AGR?

Alpha Gamma Rho (AGR) is looking for a few good men.  Yeah, we've borrowed that from the Marines, but it sums up our recruitment interests for our fraternity.  AGR is one of top fraternities at UTK, both in terms of membership, scholarship, and leadership.  AGR is the National fraternity for agriculture, life sciences, and related fields and interests.

You are coming to UT to get an education first, but AGR has a number of things it can offer you to enhance your college career and life academically, socially, athletically, and in leadership.

There is no pledging at Alpha Gamma Rho.  In 1992, AGR began a new brotherhood program.  There is no hazing; what is expected of a new member is the same as a senior.

Since AGR was chartered at UT in 1951, 1454 men have been intiated as members.  Alpha Kappa Chapter membership in 2020/21 totaled 122 active collegiate brothers.

AGR has rules regarding academics.  For all new members and members who do not make the fraternity GPA average, there are required study hours two nights a week at the library, which is strictly enforced.

Once you get to UT, you will have alot of free time.  AGR offers a varied social life for its members.  In addition to intramural athletics such as football, basketball and softball, AGR has a variety of social activities for its members.  Mixers are held during the semester with different sororities.  In April of each year, the fraternity has its Pink Rose Formal, held recent years in Charleston, S.C., Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Savannah, GA.  And, AGR has won UT Homecoming from 2005-2009 and again in 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017, 23018, & 2019 with second place finishes in 2010, 2012, 2014, and 2016.  AGR also participates in such UT traditions as All-Sing and Carnicus as well as sorority sponsored activities such as Delta Gamma Anchor Splash and Delta Zeta Turtle Tug.  AGR is reining ACE (All-Campus Events) Cup winner and has held the Cup since 2017.  The ACE Cup recognizes the UT Campus organization with the most participation in campus events such as an including Homecoming, Carnicus and All-Sing.

AGR offers its members leadership positions in the fraternity as well as on "The Hill" and Ag Campus.  AGRs are in leadership position across the UT Campus ranging from Ag Campus clubs, judging teams, and organizations to activities on the main campus ranging from UT Ambassadors, Student Government, and All-Campus Events.  Did you know that AGRs have been Smokey's Handlers for the past 44 years.  Three AGRs lead the UT Vols out onto the field at Neyland Stadium with Smokey before every homegame.  AGR encourages its members to become involved in campus activities and events.

Through AGR's statewide alumni base, brothers looking for summer jobs and internships have a "leg up" on other UT students.  With over 1200 UTK alumni across the state and the US, brothers have access to those all important student internships that are in such demand today.  An $2.50 million campaign was completed in 2018 which renovated and added onto AGR's house at 1840 Fraternity Park Drive. Our alumni completed a campaign that raised $815,000 for scholarships for AGRs and house improvements.  This April, we awarded $53,500 in scholarships and awards to members.

What does it cost to belong to AGR? Probably less than you think.  We try to keep the fraternity affordable so more guys can join.  We also have kitchen that serves nine meals a week.
